Feeding the 5,000 | Decreasing Food Waste

Today I witnessed something worth talking about. Feeding the 5,000 Front Range raises awareness on global food waste while supplying food for 5,000 people. The non-profit teams up with local farms to make use of the produce they cannot sell or have an abundance of. From 11am-4pm at Denver Skyline Park, thousands of people, from the homeless to business colleagues, lined up for a free meal and to take a bag of fresh vegetables home.

James Beard award-winning Chef, and Denverite, Jennifer Jasinski created a Vegetable Curry with 2,000 pounds of food that would have gone to waste. This hearty Madras Style stew included carrots, leeks, onions, celery, and an assortment of peppers. There even was the option to top it off with cilantro lime breadcrumbs.

It was an amazing event that brought many people together. I highly suggest attending or volunteering next year!
