Denver Restaurant Week 2016 | The Keg

Last night I was invited to Denver Restaurant Week at The Keg Steakhouse next to the Colorado Mills. I had the option to order from the regular menu or the Restaurant Week menu. Typically I opt for the regular menu but The Keg did not skip corners or make specialty items on theirs. Instead they featured the best items from their everyday menu at a great price. For $30 a person I received a three course meal.

FIRST BITES:

You must start with a bottle of the Meiomi Pinot Noir. It is a well balanced, medium body, approachable wine. It has flavors of oak, spices, and vanilla. It complimented every course.

We chose the Iceberg Wedge and Caesar Salads for our first course. The wedge was my favorite because The Keg makes the most delicious housemade bleu cheese dressing. I usually dislike bleu cheese but I could have bought a bottle of this dressing. I couldn't stop raving about it to the General Manager and our server. The Caesar was equally as good and the dressing had a flavorful lemon zest instead of a fish-like taste. I loved that both salads were served on a chilled plates. In addition to the salad course, we received fresh out of the oven sourdough bread and warm butter.

SECOND BITES:

We each ordered a steak because that is what The Keg is famous for. The Sirloin Oscar is a 6oz grilled top sirloin garnished with shrimp, scallops and asparagus, and then drizzled in Béarnaise sauce. The combination of seafood and steak was perfectly complimented with the buttery béarnaise. The Prime Rib is a 10 oz specially aged, slow roasted, and hand-carved cut. It is served with an spicy horseradish and a red wine herb jus. The prime rib melted in my mouth. Each entree had the choice of side so we ordered the roasted garlic mashed potatoes and the twice baked potato.

THIRD BITES:

The final course was dessert; we ordered the Cheesecake topped with bing cherries and the famous Billy Miner Pie, which is a mocha ice cream on top of an Oreo crust with hot fudge and caramel drizzle then finished with a toasted almonds. We tried to eat in moderation throughout the dinner to save room for dessert. After one bite of the Billy Miner Pie it was easy to find room to finish it all. The cheesecake was also very thick and creamy and did not taste overly sweet. It was one of the best cheesecake's I have ever had.

FINAL BITES:

I highly recommend The Keg Steakhouse + Bar especially during Restaurant Week when you can sample more items from their menu. When I return, I am going to try the highly raved 20oz Rib Steak. The dress is casual to upscale and they accept reservations. The evening we were there they had 410 covers (reservations) so I suggest booking in advance [and if you can request Corry to be your server, he had a huge part in our great experience].
